We are recruiting on behalf of a brand-new supported accommodation service in Failsworth, Oldham, supporting young people aged 16–18 on a 1:1 basis.
This is a waking night role supporting young people with a range of needs including mental health challenges, autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural needs, trauma backgrounds, substance misuse, and young people transitioning towards independence.
We are looking for resilient, confident and reliable individuals who can remain calm under pressure and provide consistent support throughout the night.
The Role
As a Waking Night Youth Support Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing and stability of young people during overnight hours.
This role involves monitoring the service, carrying out welfare checks, managing incidents, responding to safeguarding concerns, completing detailed reports and providing emotional support to young people who may be struggling during the night.
You will be required to build professional relationships, maintain clear boundaries and confidently manage challenging situations when they arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 overnight support to young people aged 16–18.
- Conduct regular welfare and wellbeing checks throughout the night.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, incidents and emergencies.
- Manage challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques.
- Support young people experiencing emotional distress, anxiety or crisis situations.
- Monitor and report missing-from-home or absconding incidents in line with procedures.
- Maintain accurate records, incident reports and detailed handovers.
- Ensure the service remains safe, secure and well-managed overnight.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, managers and external professionals.
- Promote positive outcomes and independence for young people.
About You
This role is ideal for someone who is confident working independently and able to remain professional when faced with challenging behaviour.
Young people may display verbal aggression, refuse support, misuse substances, abscond from the service or require additional emotional support during the night. We are looking for individuals who can communicate effectively, maintain professional boundaries and manage these situations calmly and safely.
Experience Required
We welcome applications from candidates with previous experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable adults.

Essential Requirements
- Previous support work, care or youth-based experience.
- Enhanced DBS covering Adults and Children (or willingness to obtain one).
- Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to de-escalate challenging situations confidently.
- Reliable and committed to working regular night shifts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
